CANE AND BAMBOO CRAFTSPERSON STATE AWARD WINNER
Profile of Artist:
A. Baby comes from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands which are a long chain of islands located in the southeastern part of the Bay of Bengal. Wood and other forest products are available here in abundance. Cane and bamboo are also available in large amounts.
A.Baby did a one year handicraft (cane & bamboo) course under the expert guidance of Master Craftsman from Agartala. After this she started designing exotic handicrafts of cane and bamboo independently. Around three decades have passed she is making the beautiful cane baskets made from thin twigs of cane and other useful and decorative items of bamboo.
A. Baby is a recipient of State Award for her master craftsmanship. She is training new upcoming artisan and later these skilled artisan starts designing their own products for their livelihood.
